With the opening of the National Corvette Museum’s newest exhibit, LUSTER: Realism and Hyperrealism in Contemporary Automobile and Motorcycle Painting, the Museum is providing guests with another way to experience the magnificence and splendor of automotive design. The National Corvette Museum is announcing “Horsepower and Hyperrealism – A High School Art Competition” as an extension of the exhibit. Open to all high school students, entry rules include:
- All transportation imagery created through paint processes is eligible.
- The competition is open to all high school students in Kentucky.
- All work submitted must be original and completed in the last three years. Size restrictions: No single work may be more than 6 feet in width and 8 feet in height.
- All submissions must be age-appropriate.
- There are no restrictions on content and numerical judging will be based on three categories:
- Qualities of Hyperrealism (Maximum 20 points)
- Is the work realistic? Does the work capture the spirit of hyperrealism
- Creativity and Originality (Maximum 20 points)
- Is the work unique? Does it uniquely connect to Corvette or transportation?
- Adherence to the competition’s theme (Maximum 20 points)
- Does the work capture the essence of horsepower and hyperrealism?
- Qualities of Hyperrealism (Maximum 20 points)
- Students can submit up to three entries for judging.
- In case of a tie, the judges’ decision will be final.
- Any winning student participating under the age of 18 will need a minor release form completed by a parent or guardian.
ENTRY SPECIFICS
- Entries should be photographed and emailed (under 7 MB) to artcomp@corvettemuseum.org
- Entries will be accepted solely as an email submission.
- Entry emails must include the work name, context, and photo(s) of the work, along with the medium (oil on canvas, pastel, watercolor, metal).
PRIZING
- Three winners, based on the highest scoring from a panel of judges, will receive:
- Artwork featured at the opening event for An American Love Affair: Corvette and Pop Culture exhibit on October 17, along with attendance for four.
- A National Corvette Museum prize package, including Museum admission, a guided tour, lunch at the Stingray Grill, and a $100 gift card for the Corvette Store
- Artist and work profiled in an issue of America’s Sports Car, the National Corvette Museum’s quarterly magazine.
- Winning work on display at the National Corvette Museum through the end of 2024 in our McMichael Family Education Gallery.

- October 17, 2024: Work displayed at the opening event of An American Love Affair: Pop Culture and Corvette, a new exhibit featuring America’s fascination with Corvette and popular culture over the past 70 years.
