Upcoming Educational Exhibits
Moneyville
presented by PNC Bank
January 26 - May 5, 2013
Money isn’t just about dollars and cents. The ancient Aztecs used chocolate for money, and Yap Islanders used 500-lb. stones! So what is money and how does it work? Now families, adults, and children can explore the history, science, math, and economics behind money in MONEYVILLE. This highly interactive traveling exhibition uses the familiar and fascinating subject of money to build math skills and promote economic literacy in a fun, immersive urban environment.
Visitors enter the vibrant “city” of MONEYVILLE and embark on an exciting hands-on tour through a money factory, an anti-counterfeiting forensics lab, a bank, a shopping district, a stock market, and an international shipping dock. As participants engage in the multiple activities, games, and simulations of this imaginary city, they discover economic concepts, math skills, and problem-solving strategies that can help them in their real-life decision making. MONEYVILLE meets national math and economics standards, making it ideal for school groups (grades K-8).

"Last week we brought a group of 30 preschoolers (ages 3 - 5) to the NCM for a field trip and it was a super experience. Anita Shrader helped us plan the trip and served as our guide during our visit. The children loved both the touring exhibit from the Louisville Children's Museum as well as the traditional NCM exhibits. They were able to see all the things we have been talking about in class, including "sculptures" "art" "artifacts" and so much more. We had talked about the "ropes" that marked off special areas and they truly understood the things in those sections were not for touching. Chris Sweeney jumped right in and helped the children at the Pit Stop. They are still talking about it! We purchased copies of Vinnie the Vette for each student and Anita and Lisa autographed each of the books. Anita came to the school after the field trip and read the book to the children. They were so excited to meet a real author. I could go on and on about this great experience, but I just really wanted to say thank you for making such a great opportunity and experience available to our young students!"

Thank you again for a wonderful field trip experience. My kids loved the museum! They are still talking about it. I appreciate your flexibility with the mix up on the first day. We fully expect to be back this semester with a new group of kids.
