Some Corvette Clubs host a car show with proceeds benefiting the Museum, others donate their time by visiting and performing volunteer work but for one Kentucky dealership, it was a Poker Run that yielded donations for the Museum.

On Saturday, April 9, Don Franklin Chevrolet of Somerset, KY and Museum Master Ambassador Adam Ellison (a.k.a. Lake Cumberland Corvette Guy) organized and hosted a Corvettes for Kids poker run, taking enthusiasts for a drive around Lake Cumberland with stops including three marinas. With 22 Corvettes participating, plus Holley Performance Products bringing their modified Camaro SS, over $700 was raised for the Museum’s Fund-A-Fieldtrip Program.

“Last year, Adam Ellison and Zivan Mendez with Don Franklin Chevrolet personally sponsored an Adair County High School class’ visit,” said Kellie Steen, Guest Services and Education Coordinator for the Museum. “We are excited they decided to get others involved by hosting a poker run to raise even more money for field trips to the Museum.”

The Museum’s Fund-A-Fieldtrip program was started in an effort to assist schools with not only their admission expenses but also to pay for their transportation costs. Since 2012 over $80,000 has been contributed to the Museum for educational programs with over $7,000 of that being earmarked for fieldtrips.

“Corvettes are part of the American landscape and part of the American Dream. With the economic climate of the state we wanted to share the Corvette and the lifestyle with as many as possible, so why not start with children,” said Ellison. “Don Franklin has a long history of giving back to the community and they embodied that philosophy by sharing the opportunity for Corvette owners to pass the torch to future generations.”
